Setting |
LocationGreat Gatsby takes place in New York City and Long Island. There are two neighborhoods frequently discussed. These are West Egg and East Egg. Jay Gatsby lives in West Egg, and his neighborhood is considered "new money," and the residents of East Egg tend to look down on them. East egg is "old money," or those who most likely inherited money, and have always had money. They look down on those who had to work for their money. |
Time PeriodThis book takes place in the 1920's, commonly known as the roaring twenties. It is in this era that many wealthy people do as much as they can to flaunt their wealth and success, as demonstrated by Jay Gatsby frequently with his extravagant parties hosted at his own mansion. |
